Creative brains and judges at Silhouettes 2015

Amongst the many things in India which has always managed to gather worldwide attention, is the tradition from different parts of the country, with regards to food, language, culture, and of course, fabrics! The Silhouettes 2015 event was one such celebration event, which had the graduating batch from B.D. Somani Institute of Art & Fashion Technology showcased a lot of the creative experiments at the event, which included some industry bigwigs in attendance. As some of those attending the event mentioned, the 'imaginative creativity' and 'innovative designing skills' did enthral to came to take a look.

The event had a more than decent line of industry bigwigs in attendance. Fashion critic Meher Castellino, alongside designers Archana Kochhar, Digvijay Singh, Payal Singhal, Monica and Karishma from Jade were there to attend. Chief Guest was Kiran Gupta- Textile Commissioner Ministry of Textiles, shared the platform with Anju Modi, Sharmila Raj Thackeray, and Shaina NC. There were other names who were seen, such as Naren Mukhi- Executive Committee member of CIAE, Aneel Murarka- CEO of Mirachem, and Premal Badiani- International fashion buyer.

In order to add some pop-glamour, there were known faces strutting about in the new designer creations, like Sucheta Sharma, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Sanghya Lakhanpal, and Taheer Ali to name a few.

The first batch to be recognized by BTEC qualifications from Pearson India, were a part of the show. Pearson India was represented by Mr. Kevin John and Smita Chaudry, at the event.

For the on-lookers, there was a show by the alumni of the institution. Harshal Gala, Anish Bhargav, Satyam Vaghela, and Seema Mehta, who are relatively new names in the industry, showcased some of their creations as well. Most of the designers also pledged the sale proceeds of their premier creations to the Nepal Earthquake fund.

Amongst those who picked up prizes for their work, the 'Monochrome Mischief' was amongst the 1st year category, and managed to get the most attention of the lot. Then it was the turn of 'Pop Madhubani' which was a highlight amongst the 2nd year category to have garnered favouritism amongst the judges, alongside 'Cruise Kalamkari'. And, there was a Kidswear collection also!

Fashion and ethnic wear have always been an area of creativity, and the Silhouettes 2015 event was not too different in that regard. The BTEC 3rd year batch, had 2 collections which seemed to grab a lot of eye balls- Peshwai Panache based on reworking of saris from Maharashtra, and Noma Diva, which is a resort-wear collection inspired from the shawls from North-East India.

Silhouettes 2015 was actually a pretty professional looking show on the outset. Fashion school is becoming more and more serious by the day in this country, and the show is about how the evolution is happening. Being a creative showcase, it had all elements to show the work put-in by the Institute and its students alike.
