Alcis Sportswear Is Trendy Athleisure Within A Limited Budget

With 'Make in India' aspirations to drive the country's growth still very much in priority, it was quiet the positive development watching one of India's homegrown enterprises taking a bite of the Indian sportswear market. Alcis Sportswear, based out of Noida, have targeted the similar kind of space where typically the big names of the sportswear world, have made their hay and turned into corporate behemoths. Alcis has launched their line of jerseys/t-shirts, most of which use distinctive fabric technology and recycling, to create products which are much more eco-friendly, distinctively fashionable, and even within the budgets of many. While typically the bigger names of the industry have made hay with a few tweaks of designing, Alcis proves that there is enough to do in the space of sportwear for the Indian entity too.

The t-shirts from Alcis, which include Wonder Tee’ and ‘Wonder Polo’ - T-Shirts which are made from recycled polyester, each using about eight plastic bottles. These T-Shirts are softer and lighter than normal ones. The reason is these shirts use R-PET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), which is a strong, durable and recyclable material used for soda bottles, water bottles, food jars etc, making it an environment-friendly, cost-effective and safe product that also performs better than 100% virgin polyester.

Some of the new designing quirks and features

The issue with the conventional fabrication of polyester is that it uses vast quantities of fossil fuels, water, and other industrial chemicals whose affect on nature, is definitely detrimental. Hence R-PET has some real listed benefits (as claimed):
- 90% less water is used in making recycled polyester versus polyester

- It requires 70% less energy than virgin fibre production

- Recycling one plastic bottle saves the equivalent of 3 hours of energy from a 60 watt light bulb

- 1kg of RPET can keep 60 water bottles out of landfill

- RPET fabric has a 50% lower carbon footprint than the organic cotton
- Compared with other synthetic fibers, R-PET polyester fabric has almost a 90% lower carbon footprint than nylon, and 75% lower than polyester!

The main motivation behind what Mr. Baid and his team had been seeing, being an experienced partner for the big ticket brands, is that India is harboring a giant 'ath-leisure' (athletics and leisure) market of sorts. This is the sort of market, where sports activities, and the leisure wear styles are combined, and Alcis is in the market with additional design features mentioned before. And all of this, within a feasible price bracket which will suit Indian budgets; the Wonder-Tee and Wonder-Polo collection is priced affordably between Rs. 399 and Rs. 699, and are available in multiple colors across leading online and offline retail formats.
